Van Funnier

Folks,

There’s a new two-disc edition of National Lampoon’s Van Wilder DVD out. It’s called the “Van Gone Wilder Edition.” And I’m on it!

Here's the story. About two years ago, a couple of Lampoon guys and I recorded a “Drunken Idiot” audio commentary track for the movie, literally by smoking & getting drunk while watching the movie (three times in a row). By the last time through, we were so messed-up that, at one point, Mason just started repeatedly shouting the C-word at Tara Reid big image on the screen.

Which is probably why Lions Gate originally rejected the track.

But times have changed. We’ve learned a lot of lessons from 9/11. Apparently, our conception of vulgarity has been kicked up a notch or two. Apparently Lions Gate thinks so. Or at least they think this way they can sell some more Van Wilder DVD’s.

Or maybe they edited that part out. What do I know?

Click the image to buy it.

Go ahead. Do yourself a favor. Pick up a copy. Makes a great stocking stuffer! You won’t be disappointed. I remember being pretty funny. Until the third time through, that is. That one I can't remember at all.

How about running an audio commentary of Apocalypto? Now that would be high comedy. Especially the scenes of hundreds of headless corpses.

The reviews are in, for better...

"Let's start with one of the most entertaining commentary concepts in recent years, the "Drunken Idiot Kommentary." If you're past the frat boy age or didn't feel like going through rush week, you can relive what it would be like to watch Van Wilder in a basement wearing a toga, as a few drunken guys play the Van Wilder drinking game while laughing at the movie."

...or worse.:

"Drunken Idiot Kommentary: As much as I enjoyed the movie, I couldn't stand this lame commentary track. I barely made it in ten minutes before I had to turn it off. It was hosted by "Brickman" and "Mason" (can't find anyone by those names associated with the film, so maybe they introduced themselves later) who made complete idiots of themselves (the point, obviously), spouting the most inane nonsense imaginable. Maybe it got funnier, but I'll never know."

But I'll still respect you in the morning, Steve. Even though I still hold you responsible for making me sit through this craptastic movie in the first place.
