The winds were so fierce yesterday they blew the car cover right off our camper! Today, they've died down, but an enormous hawk, no doubt confused by the gales, alighted on our fence. Here's a bad picture:

My dear friend (and best man) Becky, the second funniest woman in America (my wife is 1st), stayed with us this weekend. Here's a good picture (quick, click on the thumbnail before she makes me take it down):

She was up for a Hollywood writing job which didn't pan out. I mention this by way of trying to lighten her spirits, because I was up for an audition that didn't pan out. Turns out the auditions are being held in Los Angeles when I had assumed they were happening in New York.

As if that weren't bad enough, Raegan (excited about our trip) managed to score some tickets to Spamalot (in NY) off Craigslist (which, ironically, is where I found out about the audition) from a woman who thought she was buying tickets to see the show in Boston! So I guess there's at least a lot of irony and a kind of a nice symmetry of error to the whole thing.

The audition was to host an interview-type show about new books and authors. I figured what with my MFA in literature and my comedy background I could do a pretty good job. Alas, it was not meant to be. In any case, if anybody needs us this weekend, we'll be on Crespo's fold-out couch in Manhattan, most likely having our car broken into.

Did I ever tell you about the time I was all lined-up to be Andy Dick's drummer? That didn't work out either, though I did get to jump naked on his trampoline.

You couldn't find a more flattering picture?

You can sell the Spamalot tickets for $600 (or so I hear) and use the money to fly out to LA for the audition. (Jet Blue is pretty cheap.) You can stay at my place. It all works out perfectly.

It's better for you if the auditions are in LA. I mean, how many people out here are actually literate?

Think about it.

Hey there,
not sure if you made it out to LA for the Spamalot audition. I went up for it. Tara Ruben and her assistant were there along with the pianist. It went really well and I'll keep you posted on whether I get a callback or not.
Oh and to bk I'd say that most actors out here are not only illiterate, they couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. Great news for actors like me who actually go to class three times a week and work at the career they've chosen. The gap between these poseurs and the serious workers is HUGE and casting directors see the difference, they really do!
Good luck.
Bye.
